The Home-Based Program

Children from birth to approximately 1 year, or those who are medically fragile and unable to participate in the center, are served in a home-only program.  The purpose of this program is to provide direct educational and therapeutic intervention to the child and to model these techniques for the family.

The Combined Home and Center Program

Transition Class: Children between 1 and 2 years of age are served in this class. They attend the center on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for three hours and receive one home visit per week. The emphasis during the center time is on a gradual change from home-based, one-on-one services to working in a small group setting.

Toddler Class: Children from 2 to 3 years are served in this class.  These children attend on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for 3 hours and receive biweekly home visits.  The emphasis in this class is on gradually preparing children for the demands of the preschool environment.

Physical / Speech Therapist Consultants

Specialists consult with staff as well as parents. They provide information and techniques to enhance each child’s motor and communication development.

Parent Group

The Purpose of the parent group is to provide a forum for parents to receive education and information on a variety of topics and to give and receive emotional support. In addition, parents supplement the programs with holiday parties, family picnics and outings.

Transition Planning

Staff assists and educates parents in the exploration of the different educational and community resources available following a Child’s time at Centro.  Parents are informed of their legal rights and taught skills to advocate for their child’s educational needs.

Service Coordination

Staff assists families with coordination of many different types of services, which might include:

  • Nutrition Consultation
  • Transportation (Provided by Regional Center)
  • SSI
  • Translators
  • Medical and Therapy Services
